Alright, well, the title speaks for itself, so there really isn't any need for an introduction. I will start off by saying that I was there, and much to my dismay, after several hours of still framing all the crowd shots, I do not make an appearance anywhere on this DVD. So contrary to rumors, I will not be selling autographed copies on my website. Sorry folks, maybe next year. Anyway, this is a pretty no-frills DVD. Performances and interviews from a bunch of the bands that played last year's fest. Highlights include Shadows Fall, Lacuna Coil, Meshuggah, Nevermore, Lamb of God, Himsa, and Haste, 27 bands altogether. Some of the interviews are pretty funny. My personal favorite is seeing Jake and Nate of Converge beat each other with belts. The whole DVD is shot pretty well, and the sound is right off the board, so it certainly isn't lacking in quality. My only complaint is the way each clip fades in and out; it kinda takes away from the performance. The end credits feature the bands taking Rorschach inkblot tests, and are pretty hilarious.

New England Metal & Hardcore Festival 2003” From Various Artists

This is a damn good documentary about the 2003 new England Metal/Hardcore Festival. To those on the outside, it would seem to be nothing more than a collection of metal/hardcore acts who got together to perform in Worcester (pronounced Wooster and I have no idea why), Massachusetts, but to those in the know it's the only metal fest in which to go to. Tasty performances by the likes of Shadows Fall, Opeth, Killswitch Engage, Converge and Atreyu, among 25 others, are interspersed with sit-down interviews backstage. Occasionally the band's offer some unique insight during the interviews, but more often that not they're just dicking around in the dressing room, and waiting to let their music do the talking, which is where this DVD really excels. Trustkill had the foresight to hire lots of metalheads to run around with DV camera's, which adds the manic panic visuals to the bands agro assaults. With some cool editing everything comes off fairly well, thanks to the quick video cuts, which compliment the aggressive intensity of the acts they're capturing. Filmed over two days in 2003, and clocking in 45 scenes and just under three hours, the New England Metal/Hardcore Festival is a must for heavy hitters out there. It's a quick fix of visual / aural / metallic cotton candy that can't be found anywhere else, outside of a quick trip to next year's festival.
