Flexing some true hardcore muscle on One Thousand Cries are Buffalo, NY's Despair whose main focus would have to be intensity. Guitar bound aggression with a singer hitting it with every turn, forcing things into action. Compiled from Despair's first 7" and three additional demo tracks, this release blitzes you with solid heave-ho hardcore.

Heavy, shivering vocals and banging guitars produce an unusual sound and breathtaking hardcore which does not lack in anything. Along with the 7" there are three demo tracks and seven live tracks which have an exceptionally high sound quality.

Buffalo's Despair bring you hard, metallic hardcore ala Strife and Snapcase. Hard, aggressive lyrics, kick ass mosh parts, and metallic breakdowns that will make you jump out of your chair and start moving. CD also has a live set. Pick this up.

What you get here is straight forward, no frills hardcore. Fast, heavy, and aggressive, but not metal in the least. You could compare them to a lot of old school bands, particularly "Culture Shock" era Four Walls Falling, but this kind of honest hardcore isn't particularly old school or new school, it's just hardcore. If I was trying to describe hardcore to someone I'd probably have them listen to this. It really says something for Despair that they are becoming so popular without having an easily accessible moshcore sound like so many other bands out there today.
